After graduation from Wofford College (Spartanburg,
So. Carolina) with an AB degree in psychology, I worked
for Union Carbide Corporation (New York City) as a
manufacturer's representative. Eight months later
(February 1958) I entered the U.S. Army Counterintelligence
Corps as a Second Lieutenant. After serving for two
years, I was discharged and continued for three more
years as a reservist. I received an honorable discharge
as a Captain in 1964.
I entered the life insurance business in 1961 as
a salesman and have held this position to date. Professionally,
I am a Life and Qualifying Member of the Mission Dollar
Round Table. I am a member of the Solano/Napa Association
of Life Underwriters and have been a guest speaker
at many life association meetings throughout California
and the Western states. In addition articles have
been published in various trade journals. During the
past thirty-five years, I have been a member of New
York Life's highest Council, which is recognition
of the top 250 New York Life agents in the country.
In addition each year since 1963, I have received
the National Quality Award, NALU. I spoke at the 1973
MDRT Convention in Seattle, was elected to NYLIC Agents
Advisory Council in 1973 and served as the secretary
to the AAC in 1974-75. In 1985 I was a guest speaker
at the MDRT - San Francisco. In 1976, we formed Pacific
Insurance Programs, Inc., a life insurance and employee
benefit sales/service force specializing in corporate
insurance, employee benefits and estate planning.
For the New York Life Insurance Company Club Year
1979-80, I led the Central Pacific Region as the Regional
Vice President. I was among the top 100 agents recognized
by New York Life as a Summit Member in 1981.
For eight years I was active as a member of the Lions
International Service Organization. My positions of
responsibility have included president, director,
and district chairman. I was a member of the Board
of Directors of the Sequoia YMC and currently serve
as an advisor to the executive committee. I have served
terms on the Board of Directors of the San Mateo County
United Crusade and the United Bay Area Crusade covering
five Bay Area counties. I have served as vice chairman
of the Sequoia Region of the American Red Cross, served
on the Board of Directors and the Executive committee.
In 1966, I was one of six men selected from Northern
California by Rotary International to represent the
district for two months in Japan for a business and
cultural exchange. In addition, I am a former director
of the Northern California Kidney Foundation. My name
appears in Who's Who in the West. During the time
of my residence in the community of Ladera in Portola
Valley, California, I was elected to the Board of
Directors of the Ladera Community Association in 1970.
In 1971, I was elected Treasurer and President the
following year. Most recently, I was elected to the
Board of Trustees for the Napa Valley Unified School
District. In 1984, I was invited to be a Board member
of a non-profit corporation, Products and Services
Industries, training mentally handicapped children
for the work force. In 1987, I became a board member
of the Napa County Volunteer Center, and the City
of Napa Parks and Recreation Commission. During 1996,
I was a member of the Napa County Grand Jury.
In 1971, I was a founding director of the Camino
California bank and served on the Board of Directors
and the Loan Committee until 1975.
I was the chairman of the Ladder Neighborhood School
Committee for 1978-79. I was a member of the Educational
Advisory Committee for Robert W. Naylor, Assemblyman,
20th District.
In 1979-80 I served on the Board of Directors and
was elected to Secretary in 1980-81 for the Palo Alto
Rotary Club. The Palo Alto Rotary Club selected me
to lead the team of five young businessmen to England
in 1981. For six weeks we studies business, social,
and personal aspects of life in Southern England.
I spent the Month of June in 1982 in the New York
Life Insurance Company Home Office as a consultant
to augment the new Agent's Training Program. The "Templeton
Prospecting System" is now being implemented
as a tool for New York Life General Managers in training
new agents.
In July of 1982, I set sail with my family from Plymouth,
Massachusetts and spent one full year cruising home
to the San Francisco Bay via the Caribbean and through
the Panama Canal. My hobbies include sailing, tennis,
golf, and skiing
In 1999-2000, I was president of the Napa Rotary
club. Currently, I am member of the Penn Valley, CA
rotary club.
